The Board of Directors of Munksjö AB has decided that they will close the manufacturing operations in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, effective June 27, 2009. The extreme economic downturn, high cost of energy and raw materials along with selling price pressure, have led to a situation of unsustainable losses for the Fitchburg operation.

Munksjö will stay committed to the North American Market. We will shut down the plant in a way that gives us the opportunity to restart again. Our interest in the development of a biomass energy plant will continue, and prepare for an energy efficient operation in the future. Our sales and customer service operation will maintain in Fitchburg and source products from our European mills.
