Paper for cable insulation
This type of paper for high-voltage cables is something of a speciality at Munksjö Electrotechnical paper. To prevent power loss, the paper must be completely free of chemicals and charged ions. To meet the rigid requirement of total insulation thickness after winding some 150-200 mm layer of paper on the conductor, the tolerance of the paper is measured in thousand of millimeters.
Transformer paper
A transformer is the gear-box of the electric power supply system. This is where the electric power from power plants is transformed to the desired tensions (Volts), either for transmission over the grid or made usable for distribution to households etc. Insulating the transformation of tension relies on paper and other cellulose products impregnated in oil. To meet the modern requirements of long-life insulation in this tough environment, impregnated in oil, Munksjö also offers various levels of Thermally stabilized papers. This is rapidly becoming a standard among the T&D customers.
Other industrial basepapers
There is also production of laminated paper for electrical laminates, abrasive paper with lower grammage, battery paper etc.
Raw materials
Unbleached kraft pulp from Billingsfors, Sweden. There are only three pulp mills in Europe producing electro-technical pulp. Two of them are included in the Munksjö company; Aspa and Billingsfors. This makes us the only manufacturer of electrotechnical paper with its own pulp mill and provides us with perfect control of the pulp production.
Water from lake Vättern
Clean water is a condition for the production of electro-technical paper. From lake Vättern, the second largest lake in Sweden and the largest reservoir in Europe of absolutely pure drinking water is each day some 15,000 m³ pumped into the Munksjö mill.
