Aspa Bruk's constant efforts to improve production in terms of regard for the environment mean that in regard of emission-values, there is hardly any difference between ECF and TCF pulp. To further reduce the use of chlorine dioxide in the production of ECF pulp, a new bleaching sequence, in which only a small amount of chlorine dioxide is used in the final bleaching stage, was installed 2001.
Aspa Bruk's environment related efforts are currently focusing on the emissions of oxygen-consuming substances (COD substances), in order to be able to meet also future requirements. Aspa Bruk's philosophy is that it is better to address emissions at source. By the introduction of dual stages of oxygen bleaching and the more closed final bleaching stage, we have been able to reduce emissions to below limit without any external, secondary treatment.
