Spantex
Spantex is impregnated paper that is used in wood-based panels, and the end customers are partly the same as in the Decor business area. The customers are manufacturers of modular office furniture, decor panels and flooring. Manufacturing of end products involves laminating the foil onto the panel using heat and pressure.
The product range includes durable edge banding foils and ready-to-use foils, painted or imprinted with a pattern, for surface treatment of simple furniture. Spantex balancing foil is laminated onto the base or back of modular furniture and laminate floorings to protect the product from moisture damage or keep it from changing its shape. A special foil for the base of kitchen work tops is delivered in large quantities both with and without logo imprinting. Priming foils remove irregularities, seal the surface and provide a substrate for painting on a wood-based panel.
The division’s primary market is Europe and its products are sold through agents under the Spantex brand name. Demand was stable in 2006. There are many competing manufacturers in Europe – however, none that commands a dominant position. Spantex’s largest competitors are Kämmerer (Ahlström Paper) in Germany and Inveresk in the UK.
