Munksjö celebrates inauguration of modernized paper machine in Brazil with historic event

On June 10, 2025, Munksjö marked a major milestone with the official inauguration of the fully modernized Paper Machine 7 (PM7) at its Caieiras plant in São Paulo, Brazil. The ceremony was part of Expandecor, the largest investment in the company’s history — totaling R$190 million (around €30 million) — and reinforces Munksjö’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and long-term growth in Latin America.

The event brought together around 70 guests, including customers, strategic partners, board members, and public authorities. Notable participants included CEO Dr. Manfred Bracher, Chairman of the Board Jukka Moisio, Paulo Hartung, President of the Brazilian Tree Industry (IBÁ), and Gilmar Lagoinha, Mayor of Caieiras, who emphasized the company’s contribution to local development.

“We have chosen to invest in Caieiras, because we believe in the potential of Brazil, in the strength of the Latin American market, and, above all, in the remarkable capabilities of our local team. This plant has a legacy of 135 years — and today, we are reinforcing its importance for the decades to come,” said Dr. Manfred Bracher, CEO of Munksjö.

Now equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the new PM7 doubles the site’s production capacity. The investment positions Caieiras as a regional hub for high-quality decor paper, uniquely equipped to serve both domestic and international markets.

“We are the only decor paper manufacturer in Latin America. With this expansion, we are now fully capable of meeting demand in Brazil while increasing our export volumes to other countries,” said Richard Pino, General Manager of Munksjö Brazil and Vice President LATAM.

A highlight of the celebration was the unveiling of a commemorative plaque featuring the names of all 289 employees involved in the project — a tribute to the teamwork and dedication that brought Expandecor to life.

Following a technical tour of the new machine, guests concluded the event with a celebratory lunch at the plant.
