Munksjö Tolosa is recognized by its energy and water initiatives

Since January 2024, the electricity consumption of Munksjö's Tolosa factory has been completely covered by renewable energy sources. This achievement marks a significant milestone in our sustainability journey, ensuring that every electric kWh consumed in the factory comes from renewable sources.

The company is proud to prevent the release of up to 30% of CO2 emissions annually, contributing to a cleaner, greener future. Certified by the Spanish CNMC and integrated into the European Energy Certificate System, our electricity source is backed by 100% renewable guarantees of origin.
“It is a goal not only for the Tolosa plant but for all Munksjö plants to be completely independent of fossil fuels. This is a first step on a journey we’re following worldwide”, says Aitor Mier, Munksjö HSE Director.
During March, Munksjö Tolosa was honored to welcome the Vice Minister of Sustainability of the Basque Government, Aitor Aldasoro, and the Water Agency Director, Antonio Aiz Salazar, to our plant in Tolosa, Spain. During the visit, they were introduced to our decarbonization and water recirculation projects, and we are proud to say that we received very positive feedback and commitment from them to facilitate these stretching and demanding projects.

“Sustainability is part of Munksjö’s DNA, and many of our resources are devoted to ensuring environmental targets,” shares Iñaki Munduate, Plant Manager of Munksjö Tolosa.
For many decades, the Tolosa plant has focused on systematically managing the environmental impact of decor paper manufacturing, and we are proud to say that our site is certified according to the internationally recognized environmental management standards ISO 14001 and EMAS.
